Residents Comply With Instructions From BPPTKG Anticipate Merapi Mountain Lava Drops
Era Fakta. Communities on the slopes of Mount Merapi, Cangkringan Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, are ready to obey whatever instructions from the Center for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) related to the increase in Merapi activity, especially after incandescent lava.
"The phenomenon of lava avalanches at Merapi is actually a natural thing, because Merapi has a" gawe "(hajat). But what is clear is that the instructions from our BPPTKG are ready to comply," said Kepuharjo Village Head, Cangkringan Heri Suprapto in Sleman, Tuesday (18 /12 am.
Mount Merapi again experienced a lava avalanche on Sunday (12/16) afternoon around 6:55 p.m. But there was no roar that accompanied the Merapi lava dome.
Heri said, related to the occurrence of the lava avalanche BPPTKG did not issue new instructions, where the status of Merapi was still at level two or alert with a maximum safe radius of three kilometers from the peak of Merapi.
"At present, community activities are still running normally. Because, with the status of Merapi, which is still at level two (alert), BPPTKG's recommendations regarding safe distance are still a three kilometer radius from the summit," said Heri.
According to him, as long as his side followed BPPTKG's direction there was nothing to worry about. But if BPPTKG increases the status of Mount Merapi to level three or standby, then the public must get ready.
"As long as the second level is still safe, if it is level three we are just getting ready while waiting for BPPTKG instructions," he said.
Meanwhile, Totok Hartanto, a resident of Wukirsari Cangkringan Village explained that there were no signs, not even roar, when the lava avalanches occurred.
"The lava collision incident yesterday was not monitored," he said.
He said, now the people on the slopes of Merapi are ready when things start to deteriorate.
"If it's level three, we also have to be prepared even though the distance is quite far," he said.
From the BPPTKG information the volume of Merapi lava dome as of December 13, 2018 was 359,000 cubic meters. With a growth rate of 2,200 cubic meters per day. The growth rate is still relatively low.
